Fight For Freedom
The Municipality of Halandri (Greek city) and the
Embassy of Portugal in Greece are honoring the
struggles of the Greek and Portuguese people for Freedom and Democracy,
on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution
The Ambassador of Portugal in Greece Helena Paiva and the
Mayor of Halandri Simos Roussos presented my new mural
which now adorns the 7th High School of Halandri, which is dedicated to the struggles
of our peoples for Freedom and Democracy and draws its inspiration from the
Polytechnic uprising in November 1973 and the Carnation Revolution in April 1974,
which was the beginning of the restoration of democracy in Portugal.
These two highlights of the anti-dictatorship struggle were part of the
so-called "third wave of democratisation" in the world, which, after Greece
and Portugal, extended to Spain and Latin America.
The event is supported by the Camões,I.P. Institute
and Awesome Athens Experiences.
